Congratulations to the Victorious Learning Institute (VLI) for its fantastic results! If you remember, in 2010 a group of young teachers came to SEED to ask for assistance with setting up a school. The school is now thriving, providing education for 230 pupils in a very deprived neighbourhood. Aysha Madha, previously a trustee, has won a place on the Vodafone World of Difference programme to work part-time for four months for SEED. Aysha is one of 500 people from across the UK selected to work at a charity of their choice, supported by the Vodafone Foundation.

SEED recently joined with other NGOs, companies, Harare City Council, Ministry of Environment and others in organising a BIG Clean-up of Harare's city centre. We recruited 25 volunteers (+ our 2 staff) to join over 2000 other volunteers armed with brooms, gloves and bins to remove about 3 tonnes of the accumulated waste. All ages turned out to plant gum tree seedlings in the community 'woodlot' (plantation of gum trees) in Dudzu this week, after the rains finally came.
These trees will provide a sustainable source of income, firewood and building material in a few years' time. They can be harvested whilst the 'mother' continues to grow. (continues)FOR EVERY CHILD, A TREE2012-12-09
We participated in "Every child a tree" commemorations held at the University of Zimbabwe on National Tree Planting Day (3 Dec). Pupils from four schools planted trees and recited poems about the environment. VIP Guests included Byron Black, Zimbabwe's former international tennis star who is now Environment Africa's goodwill ambassador, who led by example by planting the first tree. Our product-making skills course has finished with a flourish! The 25 students organised a graduation party for themselves, and many were delighted to receive their first ever certificate. They are already forming a co-operative to make and sell washing-up liquid and peanut butter with their new skills. (continues)
